The creative work by women in this research combines beautiful images with text captions – stories of their hard-won wisdom on their journeys away from violence and abuse.
They said they wanted to take part in the research because they wanted other women to hear about their experiences – to take heart and strength… and to feel less alone.
And they thought about a wider audience – the decision-makers and policy-makers they had encountered on their way through support agencies and authorities: the people who had helped or hindered their journeys. They wanted other women to have easier, smoother journeys towards safety and freedom.
The creative work by women on the move has been shown at events and in publications, as well as on this project website. It is highlighted in the research publication book, and the playing cards of the Journeyscapes game. So whilst the women themselves may not be safe enough to speak at public events about their experiences, their images and captions can speak volumes…
