Just wanted to share how I feel… and it’s freedom!

Women who have relocated to escape domestic abuse often face many problems and barriers on their journeys.

Sometimes they may question if it is all worth it – if their lives and their children’s lives are really getting better

Women in the creative groupwork for this research produced images and captions for women they imagined making journeys like their own. They wanted to encourage women in their difficult steps from abuse to freedom – to inspire them to keep moving forward

After taking part in one of the groups, Kelly moved out of the refuge and into a flat with her young son. She shared her enthusiasm with other women still in the refuge – her photograph of a swan in the park reminded her of the freedom she now felt:
